Tax Law
Our Tax department has in-depth knowledge of tax laws and how they relate to other areas of law and business. We strive to give each client a balanced solution for their tax matters that focuses on the overall goals of the client including the tax, business and legal issues involved. We routinely advise clients and accounting firms on technical federal and state tax issues, voluntary compliance initiatives, and disclosures. We also handle federal and state tax controversy work, including complex or high risk audits, appeals, tax court litigation and collection defense.
Our firm assists business clients with many of the tax issues faced in the life of an organization, including formation and choice of entity, tax planning, financing, acquisitions, sales and transitioning. Additionally, we have a long history of working on real estate matters including choice of entity, purchases, simple and complex section 1031 tax deferred exchanges, 1033 conversions, sales of inventory and investments, and real estate development. Our real estate tax attorneys will be happy to assist you.
Our clients include tax-exempt and public entities, nonprofit organizations, private foundations, school districts, municipal authorities and industrial development authorities. We enjoy the challenge of assisting each of these clients with their unique governance, tax and compliance needs, including formation and qualification, planned giving, charitable donations, unrelated business taxable income, private inurement, and federal and state filing requirements.
