Blakinger Thomas’ summer associate program is designed to provide a rising 3L law student with an opportunity to gain experience in a wide variety of legal matters, while introducing the associate to our firm and its culture, over a ten week period in the summer. The summer associate is encouraged to attend court proceedings, estate planning meetings, business and real estate closings, and other commitments that would be typical of an attorney practicing in the firm. A mentor oversees the summer associate’s assignments to ensure that the associate engages in a variety of projects spanning all of the firm’s practice areas.
Blakinger Thomas is dedicated to the growth and development of its associate attorneys. One way the firm fosters the associate attorneys’ growth in their practice areas and with the firm’s culture is through the mentor program. Each associate attorney is assigned a mentor—a partner in the firm—with whom they meet on a regular basis, often over coffee or lunch. The mentor-mentee relationship allows the associate attorney to seek guidance and receive feedback from the mentor on a professional and, if so desired, personal level. The associate attorneys are valuable assets to the firm and the next generation of skilled practitioners at Blakinger Thomas.
In addition to mentors, the firm appoints a partner to serve as the Associate Liaison who is responsible for planning opportunities for the associates to gather and connect as a group. Regular associate luncheons are scheduled throughout the year, where associates are able to ask questions, share information and socialize with one another. Various members of the firm may be asked to present on firm-related topics during these meetings.
At Blakinger Thomas we are committed to cultivating a culture of diversity and inclusion within our firm. We believe that fostering a culture which recognizes and embraces differences among all people will enhance our service to our clients, create a respectful atmosphere for our employees, and allow us to better support our community.
